Summer Solstice (A Judy Neimeyer Quilt)

Measuring 60″ x 60″, this wall-sized quilt offers flexible expansion options to queen and king sizes, making it a versatile centerpiece for any space.

At the heart of this design lies a radiant lone star, crafted using a refined strip piecing technique developed by Judy Niemeyer. Building on the foundation paper piecing tradition, Judy’s method introduces “Strip Sets” — 3″ fabric strips sewn directly onto foundation paper, then cut, rearranged, and reassembled into dazzling diamond star points. Inspired by the shared construction logic of Summer Solstice and Bali Fever backgrounds, this approach minimizes cutting, reduces fabric waste, and speeds up star block creation without sacrificing precision.

The quilt also features a stunning paper-pieced New York Beauty (NYB) block, and thanks to a thoughtfully engineered layout, the entire assembly is free of Y-Seams. With just over 7 yards of fabric required for the top, it’s as efficient as it is breathtaking.
